Offensive Tackle (4)

Cornelius Lucas, Morgan Moses, Saahdiq Charles, Geron Christian

I’ve held firm on these four tackles making the roster. And at this time, I don’t see a reason to change that.

The first three players listed all seem to be roster locks, barring a surprise. Lucas was a free-agent signee and inked a two-year deal to be either a stopgap starter for Washington or a top swing tackle. He should find success in either role and his size (6-foot-8) may remind some fans of Ty Nsekhe.

Charles was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The LSU product is expected to fight for the left tackle job but could be a swing tackle or guard if things don’t go well there. He should grow throughout his rookie season and given his rock-solid technique, he should be able to hold up on the outside.

Some fans have called for Moses’ head after the right tackle amassed 30 penalties over the past two seasons. But Ron Rivera and Co. seem confident in the right side of the team’s line from center through right tackle. That includes Moses, so he will be given another chance to start there and perhaps he’ll bounce back if he can avoid nagging injuries.

The final tackle spot is up for grabs, but Geron Christian continues to lead the competition there. Rivera has made it a point to praise Christian’s effort throughout camp so far, so it seems like the 2018 third-round pick is en route to making the roster. Maybe he’ll make the leap and compete for one of the top-three tackle roles but if not, the team will rely on his upside in the fourth tackle spot.

The only way this group changes is if Christian falters. We’ll see if Rivera’s tone on him shifts in the coming weeks, but for the time being, expect Christian to make the team.
