Washington Football Team Training Camp Profiles: Cornerback
By Ian Cummings
Danny Johnson
Experience: 3rd season
Draft Status: Undrafted, 2018
2019 Stats: Two games, one start, 11 total tackles, one pass deflection
2020 Outlook: The Washington Football Team’s cornerback position was hit hard by injuries in 2019, and Danny Johnson was not immune. He spent most of the season on the PUP list, and after coming back for two games late in the year, he found himself on injured reserve once again. Now, he returns as one of the many cornerbacks stashed in the reserve range, and he’ll have a limited number of chances to separate himself.
Expected Role: Were Johnson to make the roster, he’d likely be a rotational backup who works as a gunner on special teams. He does have some experience as a kick returner, but he was not very effective in that role.
Status: As of now, Johnson is on the outside looking in. That can change, as he has the athleticism and ball skills to prove his mettle in training camp. But Johnson is working against the numbers, and he also doesn’t have a full 2019 season to boost off of.
