2020 Outlook: Norris was a core special teamer for the Carolina Panthers from 2016-2018 and recorded a total of 11 tackles in 28 games. However, he suffered a toe injury that limited him to three games in 2018 and failed to make the squad in 2019 despite singing a two-year extension during the offseason.
For 2020, Norris will be reunited with Ron Rivera, this time in Washington. He’ll need to show value on special teams to make the squad, but the 4-3 defense is a much better fit for the 27-year-old than the 3-4 that Carolina played in last year. Perhaps that will give him a chance to make the team.
Expected Role: Special teams contributor. If Norris is going to make the team, it will be as a special teams ace. Clearly, Rivera valued his skill set during their time together in Carolina, so that at least will give him a chance to make the team as a sixth linebacker. But he is competing for a roster spot at the very best.
Status: Norris is battling for a roster spot and is currently on the outside looking in. The presence of Pierre-Louis and Hudson, two players that figure to make an impact on special teams, will make it difficult for Norris to make the team. But given his previous relationship with Rivera, he can’t be counted out.
