Washington Football Team training camp profiles: Edge rushers
By Ian Cummings
Jordan Brailford
Experience: 2nd season
Draft Status: 2019 seventh-round pick, 253rd overall
2019 Stats: N/A
2020 Outlook: Jordan Brailford spent the entirety of his rookie campaign on injured reserve, so there isn’t much information out there on the 2019 seventh-round pick. But Brailford has good athleticism for his 6-foot-3, 252-pound frame, possessing 4.65 speed and a 37.5-inch vertical jump. Brailford will have to apply his explosiveness at some point, but he has a good athletic profile for the edge position.
Expected Role: Given that Brailford is slightly undersized, he may be better suited for an exclusive pass rushing role, with his reps in run defense subsequently limited. Pass rushing was where Brailford shined last time he was on the field; in 2018 for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, he logged 10.0 sacks and 17.0 tackles for loss. His first-step quickness shines as a pass rusher, and if he makes the roster, that may end up being his niche as a rotational backup.
Status: A lot depends on where exactly Ryan Anderson is slotted on the roster, but in most scenarios, Brailford will be among several players fighting for, at most, two spots on the edge rushing depth chart. He has no NFL production to springboard off of, and other players on the list have the work ethic to outlast him if he isn’t going stride-for-stride with them. Brailford has the athleticism to have a chance, but unless he wants to be stashed for another year, he needs to piece things together and show development in training camp.
