David Bada

Experience: 1st season

Draft Status: N/A

2019 Stats (Germany): 12 games, 17 total tackles, 4.0 sacks, eight tackles for loss

2020 Outlook: This offseason, the Washington football team signed a player as part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program, providing an opportunity for players who got their start outside of the United States. The player in question is David Bada, a German defensive lineman who last played for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns.

Bada’s production doesn’t jump off the page, but it’s worth noting that in 2018, he played for the same team, and he logged 11.0 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in 17 games that year. Standing near 6-foot-5, with 286 pounds on his frame, he’s not a small dude, and he succeeded on account of his superior athleticism in Germany, which could bode well for his NFL development if he keeps refining his game.

Expected Role: Not much is known of Bada at the moment, but his size clearly demonstrates that he could potentially have some versatility on the defensive line, if he can acclimate that quickly. That’s a big question in its own right, but Bada has the physical profile that few others fighting for roster spots have, and being an edge-interior hybrid could help his chances.

Status: Bada worked incredibly hard to get to the NFL, but now that he’s here, the work isn’t over. As of now, he’s very much on the outside looking in, but until the team sets its 53-man roster, Bada doesn’t count toward the roster occupancy, so he can stay until the very last minute, working to prove he belongs on the NFL stage. The 24-year old seems like a practice squad holdover for now, but he has the potential for versatility on his side.
