Round 7

Entering Round 7 of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Washington football team held the 12th and 17th overall picks in the final stanza. The first pick was Louisville strong safety Josh Harvey-Clemons.  The lanky player’s most infamous and embarrassing play came when he was a defensive back for the Georgia Bulldogs. He tipped a certain interception from one of his teammates and into the hands of an Auburn receiver for a miraculous touchdown.  However, Harvey-Clemons found better success with the Cardinals.

In Washington, Harvey-Clemons has been a solid special teams contributor, and with his move to inside linebacker, the tall defender provides very good depth. His success has been mixed and this will be a “prove it” season for him. No one knows why interim head coach Bill Callahan rarely used Harvey-Clemons in the latter half of 2019, but this strong safety turned inside linebacker has a good knack for covering tight ends over the middle.

Five picks later, Washington added Auburn cornerback Josh Holsey. Holsey enjoyed a decent first season, but injuries took a toll on him in 2018.  He tried to catch on with the Raiders last year, but was cut just prior to the 2019 season.
