Ian’s Redskins roster prediction: Surprises at receiver, offensive tackle
By Ian Cummings
Quarterback (2)
Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen
Quarterback seems fairly straight forward to me. Dwayne Haskins is the starter and will be able to keep the job so long as he compounds the growth he showed last year and throughout the offseason. Kyle Allen will be his backup, a reliable safety net with previous knowledge of Scott Turner’s offense.
Alex Smith is one notable player missing from this list. It would be truly amazing if he could suit up this year, but as far as he’s come since his life-changing leg injury, I think he still needs more time before he’s ready for NFL contact. He’ll likely be on the PUP list to start, and potentially transition to injured reserve.
There’s also undrafted free agent Steven Montez in the wings, who has good athleticism and a rocket arm. However, he was very inconsistent in college, and with a short offseason, I don’t think he’ll be challenging for a roster spot.
