Round 1

The Redskins were hoping to mirror their successful early-round picks of the 2015 draft and they made a minor trade in the first round with Houston. The Texans drafted wide receiver Will Fuller and one pick later, with Houston’s former pick, the Redskins selected wide receiver Josh Doctson of TCU. Did the Redskins outsmart themselves for the third year in a row?

Doctson went on to catch a total of two passes his rookie season (before heading to the injured reserve list) and he enjoyed a fair amount of success the following two seasons. The front office chose to release Doctson prior to the 2019 season. He signed with Minnesota and proceeded to bless the Vikings with a grand total of zero catches before being released late in the season. He is now with the New York Jets and Will Fuller had his 2020 option picked up by the Texans this offseason.

Yes, the Redskins front office outsmarted themselves for the third year in a row. They could’ve drafted Fuller, or traded and drafted players such as Chris Jones, Xavien Howard, Hunter Henry, Reggie Ragland, Derrick Henry, or some guy named Michael Thomas. Keep your chin up, because the Redskins did snag a 2017 sixth-round pick in the process. Sarcasm intended.
