Round 6

The Redskins procured a major steal in round six with the selection of Virginia Tech strong safety Kyshoen Jarrett.  Jarrett was the hybrid insider linebacker/strong safety combo that they had been seeking for a couple of years.  Jarrett’s talents were on display in 2015 and the future was looking great for the former Hokie.

Then tragedy hit.  Jarrett was injured in the final game of 2015 and he sustained permanent nerve damage.  His career was over.  Jarrett was on his way to long term success and the Redskins were ecstatic.  The injury just seems so unfair for such a fine young talent.  Unfortunately, this earns a poor grade for the team and we don’t like it.

Arkansas cornerback Tevin Mitchel and Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer were also chosen in the sixth round.  We mention them together because they were released that summer.  Neither player enjoyed any success in the NFL.

The Redskins should’ve traded those two picks and move back to the latter part of Round 5.  Having a better prospect to work with is much more preferable than drafting a couple of camp fodder types.
