Redskins: Predicting the 2020 stats for each incoming rookie
By Ian Cummings
Saahdiq Charles
Saahdiq Charles’ career could go a number of different ways from this point. There’s been talk that, if he doesn’t take hold of the left tackle job, he could be experimented with at left guard, where his relative lack of length could better translate.
I think Charles will make enough of an impression at left tackle to stay there, however; he makes up for what he lacks in length with excellent mobility and lateral athleticism, and he also has an impressively innate understanding of leverage for his young age.
Charles should show flashes fairly early, and while he might miss a couple games due to injury, I have confidence that he’ll hold the job for most of the 2020 season and grow along the way. This is more of a judgement call, as it’s entirely dependent on how Charles tackles this opportunity. But he has the skill set to succeed at tackle, and with the new coaching staff supporting him, I think he’ll be consistent enough in 2020 to warrant further development.
Saadhiq Charles Prediction: 14 games, 14 starts, seven sacks allowed, seven penalties
