Washington Redskins Inside the Numbers: Brandon Scherff
By Joshua Grim
Beyond the Grades: Run Blocking
Scherff is one of the true talents in this league and does not have many weaknesses. He grades very well in almost every category, but if one area stands out above the rest, it would be his run blocking ability.
A mountain of a man, standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 315 pounds, Scherff has a true mauler’s mentality. He is very good at dominating the defense at multiple levels and rarely misses a chance to throw his opponents to the ground.
Let us take a look at where his run blocking ranks among offensive guards since he came into the league. We will not use 2018, as he missed half the season with an injury.
Run Block Grades
2015 (rookie season) – 76.9 (10th)
2016 – 76.4 (15th)
2017 – 79.1 (4th)
2019 – 76.3 (5th)
Average – 77.2 (8th)
As we can see, Scherff lives up to his run blocking prowess, with these grades. He was able to average well within the top 10 of this category during the four years he was able to remain relatively healthy. If he is able to stay healthy moving forward, he will be well worth the money he will demand.
