Redskins: 3 defensive Pro Bowl candidates for the 2020 season
No. 2 – DE Montez Sweat
Montez Sweat is one of the main players on the Redskins defensive line who is going to benefit from the selection of Chase Young. Defensive coordinators will have a huge problem on their hands come gameday having to gameplan for this Redskins defensive line.
Last season, playing in a 3-4 defense, Sweat was able to compile 7.0 sacks along with two forced fumbles and 13 QB hits. This season, playing in the 4-3 base scheme, Sweat will be rushing the quarterback more often instead of dropping into coverage, which will benefit his play style immensely.
Last season, Sweat was only on the field for 64% of the defensive plays. This season, I see that number increasing. Sweat getting more playing time along with the presence of Chase Young should bode well for the second-year edge rusher. If Sweat and Young can put together a season such as the one Preston and Za’Darius Smith put together last season in Green Bay, they will both be obvious choices for the Pro Bowl.
