Washington Redskins Inside the Numbers: Matt Ioannidis
By Joshua Grim
Beyond the Grade: Pass Rush (minimum 286 snaps)
This is where the big number 98 makes his money. Ioannidis will, more than likely, be used in the “3-technique” position, in Jack Del Rio’s 4-3 defense. His pass-rushing ability sets him apart from many others at his position. Let’s take a closer look at just how dominant he was last year when getting after the quarterback.
Pass Rushing (Minimum of 286 snaps)
Sacks – 8.5 (5th)
QB hits (not producing a sack) – 8 (tied for 12th)
QB hurries – 38 (9th)
Total Pressures – 55 (9th)
Pass Rush Productivity (PRP) -7.7 (tied for 4th)
* PRP is a rating that measures pressure created on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks
As you can see, Ioannidis ranks in the top 10 in four out of the five main categories, and just outside of the top ten in the fifth. He is also in the top five in the most important measure of pass-rush ability.
