Round 7

Early in Round 7, the Redskins added cornerback Richard Crawford from SMU. He did have a key interception in the season finale against the Cowboys and a very important punt return in overtime that set up the game-winning field goal against the Ravens. Both plays were important as the Redskins marched to a division title. Crawford spent a little more time in the league with the Redskins and Chargers.

Later in the seventh stanza, the Redskins selected free safety Jordan Bernstine of Iowa. The front office thought they had a steal in this round and Bernstine made the roster of 53.  Suddenly, in the first game of the season, he tore the ACL, PCL, and MCL in his knee. His football career was over before it had a chance to develop as the team had expected. It seems so unfair and it is probably harsh to penalize the team too poorly for this draft pick. When a player sees his dreams end before they can begin, it is truly sad. That being said, we must judge accordingly.
