1. OT Geron Christian

The Redskins don’t have a lot of depth at the offensive tackle position. But that doesn’t mean that the team is going to keep Geron Christian around. Through two seasons, the former third-round pick hasn’t looked like an NFL-caliber player. And unless he improves rapidly in his third year, he may not make the team.

The Redskins are far from set at the tackle position. Morgan Moses will start on the right side, but at the left tackle position, it figures to either be free-agent signee Cornelius Lucas or fourth-round pick Saahdiq Charles. The LSU product Charles will likely be the long-term starter there, but Christian has mostly been written out of the competition. He’ll need to change that to make the roster.

Christian may have been a third-round pick, but that wasn’t under Ron Rivera. And if offensive coordinator Scott Turner ends up not being a fan of Christian, the team won’t keep him around.

The Redskins could opt to keep a guy like third-year player Timon Parris, a big tackle who has spent a couple of years seasoning as a backup and on the practice squad, over Christian if they feel that he’s more technically sound. Or, if the team doesn’t like the progression of their younger tackles, the ‘Skins could target one of the many veteran tackles still on the open market like Jason Peters, Cordy Glenn, or Kelvin Beachum.

We’ll see what ends up happening. But if there’s one player who needs to prove himself more than anyone else to make the roster once again, it’s Christian.
