Round 5

Round 5, Pick 172: LSU OT Saahdiq Charles

Saahdiq Charles was expected by some to be a candidate for selection on Day 2, but he slipped into the Day 3 pool, instead. Charles is rumored to have some character concerns and discipline issues clouding his 2020 NFL Draft stock, which means he could ultimately continue to fall through Round 4. If he gets to the Redskins pick in Round 5, they have to take the chance on him, because he has the upside to be a quality starter at left tackle.

Charles’ profile as a tackle is largely complete. He has the athleticism, the size, the power, and the natural feel for leverage, and he’s also very aggressive and physical as a blocker. Charles is young, yet to turn 21 years old, so if Ron Rivera can immerse him in the Redskins new culture, perhaps he could help the bookend blocker mature, and capitalize on his upside at the NFL level.
