2. player. 58. . Edge Rusher. Washington Commanders. Chase Young

Here’s another pick that seems all but locked in. Though there have been rumors that the Redskins are fielding calls for the No. 2 pick, it would take a lot to get them to give up on Young.

So, it doesn’t seem like a deal is likely. But that should excite Redskins fans given Young’s immense upside.

In my most recent mock draft, I outlined why targeting Young makes sense for the Redskins even if the defensive end/edge rush position may not be their biggest need.

"Young had a whopping 16.5 sacks last season for Ohio State after posting 10.5 the year before. He has a number of great pass rushing moves that should afford him the opportunity to find instant success at the next level. He’s a great athlete as well and has an unbelievable first step off the edge. With Young joining Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Matt Ioannidis on the Redskins defensive line, the front could be something scary. That will give Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio a chance to dial up a lot of pressure and be an aggressive pass rushing team moving forward. That’s something that Rivera’s best Carolina Panthers teams were good at, and having one elite defensive unit will afford him the opportunity to invest in upgrading the back seven in future seasons and with future picks."

The Redskins are rebuilding. They’re not going to fill all their holes this offseason, so why not stack up at one position and give them an elite unit to build around?

Young will challenge for the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and could be a double-digit sack artist and perennial Pro Bowler at the next level. And he’d fill the biggest need of all for the Redskins: talent.
