There are several prospects here that would make sense for the Jaguars. They could add a top tackle to take over on the left side and improve their offensive line. Or, a defensive prospect like Isaiah Simmons or Javon Kinlaw could be selected to improve their defense.

But remember, this is a win-now year for Doug Marrone and the Jaguars front office. They can’t afford to mess up now as their jobs are on the line. To win, they’ll need second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew to find success unless Jameis Winston or Cam Newton is signed to challenge him. And even then, they’d need a top-tier weapon to pair with D.J. Chark in their receiving corps.

The Jaguars have some nice receivers. Chark was a Pro Bowler last year and has good deep speed. Dede Westbrook can be a reception machine with some slot capability. But they could afford to upgrade Chris Conley and use him as a backup. And given that they released Marqise Lee on eve of the draft, that indicates that they are still looking for an upgrade.

CeeDee Lamb would qualify. The Oklahoma product looks like a top receiver for the next level and is arguably the best of this class. I prefer Jerry Jeudy, but I have no qualms about any who list Lamb as the No. 1 option.

Lamb has a 6-foot-2, 198-pound frame and had a very productive career at Oklahoma. He had consecutive seasons with at least 1,100-plus yards and 11-plus touchdowns while serving as a playmaking threat for three different quarterbacks (Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts). He would complement Chark well as they both have size and both can make contested catches. And while Chark is faster, Lamb is better with the ball in his hands.

Between Lamb, Chark, Westbrook, and Tyler Eifert, the Jaguars will have many players on offense for Minshew to target. And Jay Gruden, the Jaguars’ new offensive coordinator, will be able to scheme a way to get all players open. There are other options here, but Lamb is certainly among the best. And if he is the selection, the Jaguars would be some offensive line help away from having a potentially effective offense if Minshew can take the next step.

And hey, if not, they can always sign Newton, Winston, or trade for Andy Dalton.
