Round 5, Pick 16

Will Pick: CB Reggie Robinson, Tulsa

So, I might have jumped the gun saying that the Redskins should pick Robinson in the fourth round, as he was still on the board in this part of the simulation. But there’s no guarantee he will be here on draft day, so targeting him more toward the upper portion of his range could be sensible.

Robinson could be a steal here and at the very least, he would provide good corner depth for the ‘Skins. And that’s something that they’re sorely lacking.

Should Pick: TE Thaddeus Moss, LSU

Because of how weak this tight end class is, I would wait until the later rounds and take a chance on a guy while loading up on some of the deeper positions early.

This may seem counterintuitive, but the idea is that if there is a lot of talent at receiver and offensive tackle, the Redskins could come away with an early second-round value at either position in the third round. Or maybe even a late-second value in the fourth. Meanwhile, no tight end is better than a third-round value in this class, so why not just take a flyer and try to fix the position next offseason if it doesn’t work out?

Anyway, Thaddeus Moss is on the board here and would be a good option. He’s a bit undersized at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds but he’s a willing blocker and did a solid job of finding pockets of space at LSU. He may not be a true tight end in the NFL; he may play more of an H-back role. But either way, he has some talent and should draw consideration at this juncture.

Dark Horse: LB Cam Brown, Penn State

The Redskins added some free-agent linebackers this offseason but it never hurts to have extra depth in the 4-3 system. Brown is 6-foot-5 and has great athletic ability and lanky arms. He needs to get better at tackling but he plays aggressively downhill and could eventually become a starter at the NFL level.

If Rivera and Del Rio want to work with him, they could mold him into a solid playmaker.
