Round 4, Pick 2

Will Pick: TE Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri

The Redskins passed up Adam Trautman and Cole Kmet with their third-round pick. Now, they’ll land a tight end to potentially help upgrade their offense.

Okwuegbunam was once considered to be the best tight end prospect in this class, but maturity and injury issues have pushed him down a bit. Still, the 6-foot-5, 258-pound Okwuegbunam blazed a 4.49 40 at the combine and caught 23 touchdowns on 98 career college catches. He could emerge as the best tight end in a weak class, so he makes sense for the Redskins.

Should Pick: OT Saahdiq Charles, LSU

Say Claypool is available in Round 3 and the Redskins take him. That’d be great for their receiving corps, but they’d still need an offensive tackle.

Saahdiq Charles is a great option at this point and the LSU left tackle is on the rise after interviewing well during the combine and the lead-up to the draft. He’s 6-foot-4, 321 pounds and should transition well to the NFL level. The only concerns about selecting Charles here are 1) he may not make it to this pick and 2) he was suspended for six games last season for an unspecified disciplinary reasons. But if he quelled the latter in interviews, he’ll be well worth a fourth-round pick.

Dark Horse: CB Darnay Holmes, UCLA

Again, the Redskins are expected to go offense-heavy after selecting Young. But maybe if they like a defensive player enough, they could consider adding one with one of their next two picks. Holmes had multiple interceptions in all three of his years at UCLA and should have a chance to be a solid starter on the outside at the NFL level. He’d be nice competition for Fabian Moreau and insurance in the case that Ronald Darby can’t stay healthy.
