87. . Cornerback. Carolina Panthers. Jeff Okudah. 7. player

The Panthers are well-positioned to grab one of the best defensive players on the board. In this scenario, the choice will be between Jeff Okudah and Derrick Brown, but Okudah will have the edge here.

Okudah could be the third pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. If the Lions stay put at No. 3, they may opt to take him to help replace Darius Slay in the secondary. And the Giants could consider him with the fourth pick as well, especially if Isaiah Simmons is already off the board.

But in this mock, Okudah slips to seven. And the Panthers won’t complain about that. The Panthers need to add a true No. 1 corner to their secondary. They lost James Bradberry in free agency this offseason to the Giants and now have a big hole across from Donte Jackson.

Currently, Corn Elder — a player with a spot on the NFL’s all-name team, in my humble opinion — seems set to be the No. 2 corner for the Panthers. He’s a better fit as a backup or slot competition for the team.

Okudah would come in and his natural cover skills would make him the top option in the Panthers secondary. Jackson will be a solid No. 2 option with great speed and the team could find a player, perhaps Elder, to man the slot for the squad.

If both Okudah and Simmons are off the board, the Panthers could consider trading down if they don’t love Brown. They could swap spots with a tackle-needy team and target Javon Kinlaw, another defensive lineman who would upgrade their defense.
