2020 NFL Mock Draft: Full first-round mock plus all Redskins picks
This is one of my favorite fits in the entire draft. Kyle Shanahan loves receivers that are great route runners. Jerry Jeudy is the best route runner in a terrific receiver class.
If he’s on the board, Shanahan and John Lynch should take less than a minute to pass in their draft card and lock up a long-term weapon for Jimmy Garoppolo.
I recently mocked Jeudy to the Redskins in a GM Mock draft where Ian Cummings and I alternated picks to try to figure out what teams could do on draft day. Here’s what I said about Jeudy in that piece.
"Jerry Jeudy would be the perfect replacement for [Emmanuel] Sanders. Arguably the best player in this loaded receiver class, Jeudy is the best route runner in the draft and simply knows how to get open. He gains separation easily, is excellent at generating YAC with the ball in his hands, and has great athletic ability and a solid top gear. His 4.45 time in the 40-yard dash was a bit overlooked as his teammate, Henry Ruggs, logging a sub-4.3 time got more attention. Jeudy was highly productive in college and served as one of Tua Tagovailoa’s favorite targets. He routinely beat some of the tougher corners in the SEC during his playing days and averaged 72.5 catches, 1,239 yards, and 12 touchdowns in his final two collegiate seasons. And that production will have a chance to translate at the next level."
With Jeudy, Samuel, and George Kittle in the 49ers offense, it will be borderline impossible for opposing defensive coordinators to stop them. And their respective route running abilities could make the 49ers receiving corps one of the best in the league, and Jeudy and Samuel could eventually develop into the best receiving duo as well.
If Jeudy is off the board, Lamb makes sense. So does Henry Ruggs or Javon Kinlaw. But the Niners could also opt to trade down given their lack of picks after the first frame this season.
