Round 7

Round 7, Pick 216: Missouri OT Yasir Durant

At this point in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Redskins have added to all skill positions at least once, and they’ve also supplemented the offensive line. All that’s left is depth and developmental potential, and that’s the framework these final two picks follow. Yasir Durant, a starter at tackle for the Missouri Tigers, is a good athlete for his 6-foot-6, 331-pound frame, and he also offers massive 35-inch arms, which he can use to cultivate a strong anchor and consistent leverage. He needs time to progress and maximize his athletic traits, but he has the potential to be a mainstay on the line, whether as a swing tackle or as a potential starter.

Round 7, Pick 229: Texas C Zach Shackelford

Chase Roullier remains the Redskins starter at center for now, and for his durability, that’s what he deserves. But nothing is guaranteed for Roullier in 2021 if he falters in 2020, and Ron Rivera may want a contingency plan in case things change, or in case the team opts not to re-sign Roullier in the offseason of 2021. Zach Shackelford provides a good amount of security, in this sense. He’s a bit limited as an athlete, but he brings good power and competitiveness to the interior, and he shows flashes of the mauler trait when it comes to finishing blocks. He’ll provide solid depth along with Ross Pierschbacher in the early goings, and in time, he could challenge for a greater role.
