2020 NFL Mock Draft: Dueling GMs mock sees Redskins make big move

Ian: That’s right. We’re mixing it up here. You thought the guy with the initials “JH” would be the pick, didn’t you? While Justin Herbert is superior to Love statistically, and while he has arguably more upside, there’s an argument for Love to go before him.
Watching Herbert’s and Love’s tape together, it’s clear why Herbert is so polarizing. He clearly has the traits, but he’s fairly inconsistent from play to play, and his arm seems to almost have only one speed. He rarely engages in touch throws, and favors a linear, line-driving approach, which can be very valuable in certain situations, but also leads to dangerous misses.
Love, for all of his statistical warts, is a comparable athlete to Herbert, and he has a more versatile brand of arm talent. Love makes throws with touch, and he’s also very good throwing on the run. The interceptions were plentiful last year, but Love responded positively to them at his Combine interview, presenting them as opportunities from which he could learn. Love clearly has the right mindset and the right tool box as a signal caller, and that could be enough for some teams to rank him over Herbert.
