Green Bay Packers. Lucas Niang. 30. player. 49. . Offensive Tackle

Ian: The Packers have two starting tackles for the time being; David Bakhtiari is one of the best bookend blockers in the league, and Rick Wagner will be a serviceable starter for them in the coming season.

That said, Wagner turns 31 years old in October, and his contract only runs two years. Additionally, he’s never really been more than serviceable at the tackle position. The Packers clearly view him as more of a short-term signing, to compensate for the loss of Brian Bulaga. The long-term starter at tackle, as it turns out, is still on the way.

The board did not play out in the Packers’ favor in this mock draft. Any receiver left on the board is going to be a bit of a reach here, and the same can be said for linebacker, to a greater degree. Because of this, I chose to address a future need with a player worthy of the pick. TCU offensive tackle Lucas Niang.

Niang has the combination of size and athleticism to be an eventual starter both on the left and right sides, and he also has displayed a clearly developing understanding of hand usage. He’s returning from a major hip injury, which will cause some teams to exercise caution, but he should be 100 percent by the start of the season.
