2. WR Cam Phillips, Houston Roughnecks

The Redskins need some receiver depth. They have some quality, young options atop their depth chart, but they could certainly attempt to add some more depth considering how unproven they are beyond their top-three.

Phillips is a local product. He played at Virginia Tech. He went to high school in Maryland. He would fill a need for the Redskins at receiver and could certainly find a place on the depth chart if he plays as he did in 2020 for the Roughnecks.

Phillips was one of the league’s brightest stars. Working in tandem with PJ Walker, Phillips logged 31 catches for a league-high 455 receiving yards. Oh yeah, he also had a whopping NINE touchdowns in just five games and proved to be superior to many of the defensive backs in the XFL.

The 24-year-old has a lot of favorable characteristics. He has a solid 6-foot-even, 202-pound frame and is a good possession receiver but showed an ability to earn separation at the XFL level. While it may be harder for him to do that against NFL athletes, he will still have the ability to win contested jump balls thanks to his play strength.

The only thing working against Phillips is that the 2020 NFL Draft class is so deep at receiver that there may be a lower level of interest in him than normal. But since the Redskins don’t have a ton of depth beyond their top receiving options Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims, and Kelvin Harmon, it would behoove them to bring in another young guy with upside like Phillips.
