7. RB Cameron Artis-Payne, Dallas Renegades

The Renegades were another team that had a strong rushing offense during XFL action. But their success was less about the offensive line and more about the ability and burst Cameron Artis-Payne showed when on the field.

Artis-Payne, a former fifth-round draft pick out of Auburn in 2015 who spent four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, finally got a chance to prove himself as the lead dog in the Dallas backfield. He was strong when given the opportunity and finished fourth in the league with 241 rushing yards on the year.

However, what was most impressive about Artis-Payne was that among backs with 20-plus rushing, he led the league with a 5.1 yards per carry average. He showed a knack for getting to space outside, out-leveraging defenders, and using speed to get around the corner. He may not have the athletic ability to do that at the NFL level, but his vision should translate.

The only concern with Artis-Payne is that he’s shockingly 29, which is ancient in running back years. But perhaps because he has so little tread on the tires, he could emerge as a solid rotational back for a couple of seasons. Adding a guy like Artis-Payne wouldn’t be a priority for the ‘Skins, but he could be a good low-cost option for their running back room.

And after the injuries they’ve had at RB in recent seasons, they certainly need to do their part to add depth at that critical position.
