The Redskins need some serious help at cornerback. They could stand to add an upgrade on the outside but also could use some competition at the nickel to improve their depth and overall position group.

If the team wants to go with a player who may be best suited for the slot in the upcoming draft, Darnay Holmes could be an option. And at the combine, Holmes was one of the best performers at cornerback and did a lot to prove that he belongs in the third-round conversation.

Holmes’ size (5-foot-10) and testing numbers (4.48 in the 40-yard dash) were fine overall. But where he really showed off was in the on-field drills. Holmes showed great instincts as a corner and an ability to attack the ball. He held up well in coverage and it matched what he put on tape during a strong final season at UCLA.

With the Redskins unlikely to consider draft Jeffrey Okudah — who had a middle-of-the-road combine at best — unless they trade down, Holmes would make sense as a guy they could target in the third round or in the very early fourth round if he makes it that far. He would be a great option in the slot and would certainly add depth to one of the Redskins biggest weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball.
