Gamecocks . Rico Dowdle. 3. player. 850. . Running Back

The Redskins running back search could be more about finding a guy that could come off the board very late in the draft. And if that happens, Rico Dowdle could be one to watch.

Dowdle played collegiately at South Carolina. He was mostly a rotational option and actually posted career-high numbers as a freshman (133 carries, 764 yards, six touchdowns). But even in a rotational capacity, Dowdle has been good and averaged 5.1 yards per carry during his career playing in the SEC.

Dowdle was one of the standouts from the East-West Shrine Game and here’s what I said about him following that contest.

More from Commanders Draft News

"The South Carolina Gamecock simply looked like the most explosive and shifty player out on the field. He found ways to break off big runs and showed a knack for finding space and making the most of each of his runs. Dowdle’s best run came on a 30-yard scamper that saw him quickly identify the hole and attack it while getting outside. He got into the second level and turned on the jets and was able to get to the sideline and give the East squad a big gain."

Shiftiness coupled with his 5-foot-11, 213-pound frame should give him a chance to hold up well in an NFL backfield. He’ll have to show off in the field drills at the combine as he’s not expected to run too fast. But if he can showcase that he’s a solid all-around player in the drills and that he’s strong and shifty enough to make some nice runs out of the backfield, he could endear himself to some NFL teams.

And that may include the Redskins.
