1. TE Adam Trautman, Dayton

It’s not every day an NFL prospect comes out of Dayton. But Adam Trautman is doing just that and his potential for the next level is very solid.

Trautman (6-foot-5, 255 pounds) played for the Flyers over the course of the past four seasons and was an offensive leader for the FCS team. In each of the past two years, the tight end was one of their best receiving options and in 2019, he totaled 70 catches, 916 yards, and a whopping 14 TDs.

That’s not too shabby and it definitely demonstrates that the Dayton tight end knows how to function as a receiver.

Playing in the FCS, Trautman was simply bigger, faster, and stronger than most of his peers. He showed off his good athletic ability, made contested catches with ease, and generated yards after the catch consistently for Dayton. His success at the Senior Bowl helped to improve his stock and showed that he can hold up just fine against some of the sport’s other top prospects.

Trautman will face some questions about the level of competition he played against (as all smaller-school prospects do) and his blocking technique. The latter area is a massive one of improvement for him. He has the frame needed to hold up, but he’ll have to add strength and improve his footwork and hand placement in order to ensure that he’s not just a one-dimensional threat. He’ll also have to adjust to taking on stronger players at the point of attack which will require more discipline in his technique than he may be used to.

If Trautman performs well at the combine, his stock should continue to rise. He’ll pique the Redskins interest with their mid-round picks and it’s possible they will consider him in the third. But they’ll have a better idea of where he’s bound to go once his combine workouts conclude.
