Top five cornerbacks for Redskins to target in 2020 free agency

As much as I like Byron Jones, I think that James Bradberry is the best fit for the Redskins in free agency. He has a lot going for him and should be a good fit in their defense.

Bradberry already has four years of experience under Ron Rivera and should be a plug-and-play option across from Quinton Dunbar. Bradberry plays with great physicality and can rough up opposing receivers. But even with that being his calling card, he still has good ball skills.

During his career, Bradberry has intercepted eight passes in four seasons. He has also logged a total of 47 pass defenses and has put up at least 10 in each season. He’s a steady, durable player that holds up well in coverage and certainly should be able to hold down one side of the field across from Dunbar.

Bradberry is that does get targeted a lot and ranked 21st in the league in receptions allowed per Pro Football focus. That means that opposing teams think that they can beat Bradberry, yet Bradberry has made them pay with his pass defenses and picks. So, that’s a positive sign and as he continues to improve, teams may look to steer clear of him a bit more often.

The only real concern with Bradberry is that he’s not a great tackler. He missed eight tackles last year (per PFF) but considering that he’s still just 26, he should have a chance to continue to improve in that area moving forward.

Bradberry is the ideal fit for the Redskins and while he’ll likely get a big contract, he may come at a slight discount comparatively to Jones. That along with his familiarity with Rivera’s scheme makes him the No. 1 option here though it is admittedly close between Jones and Bradberry. But if Dunbar stays, Bradberry figures to be the perfect complement to him. If he goes, Jones will probably move up to the No. 1 spot.
