Ron Rivera was the next head coach of the Washington Redskins. And then suddenly, he wasn’t.

All reports suggest that momentum still favors a deal being reached between Rivera and the Washington Redskins. His meeting with Dan Snyder went well by all accounts, and later today, we could be writing about the next coach of the Redskins.

Rivera would be a solid hire for Washington. There are some questions surrounding his profile. Can he delegate without trying to manage too much? Can he begin to embrace analytics? But despite these uncertainties, Rivera is still a leader who has maintained success at the NFL level. For a franchise like the Redskins, he’d be a very good add, and all reports suggest he’s on his way.

But, just in case these reports end up being wrong, as they sometimes do, let’s plan for every contingency. What if Ron Rivera was getting cold feet? What if he needed more convincing?

Here’s what you should tell him.
