Daniel Jones will face Dwayne Haskins on Sunday in a battle of first-round quarterbacks between the Giants and Redskins.

For the first time this season, we’re going to get a chance to see Dwayne Haskins and Daniel Jones both start and play against each other. While the two did see the field the first time these two teams met in Week 4, Haskins was playing in relief of a banged-up Case Keenum.

But now, both will have had time to prepare as starters, which is something we may see a bit over the course of the next couple of seasons.

Jones had missed the previous two games while dealing with an ankle sprain but on Friday, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur announced that he would be starting against Washington. In his first outing against the ‘Skins, Jones threw for 225 yards, one TD, and two picks in the Giants’ 24-3 win. The contest also was one of three games this season in which he has avoided fumbling the ball.

Jones will have a chance to put up some really good numbers against a Redskins secondary that could be without its top three cornerbacks and potential safety Landon Collins. If that ends up being the case, Jones could have his best game to date, especially if he can avoid turning the ball over.

As for Haskins, he will be looking to exact a measure of revenge on the Giants. As mentioned, he played in relief of Keenum the first time these two teams met, but he looked ill-equipped to be on the field at that point in time. He ended up throwing for just 103 yards and had three interceptions in a game that demonstrated why he needed more time to develop at the NFL level.

But now, with a few more starts under his belt including a quality one last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, Haskins will be better prepared to take on what is a relatively weak Giants secondary. So, he could look to follow up his best outing with another solid one to create positive momentum heading into the 2020 offseason.

This matchup will certainly be an intriguing one as fans will get to see the second and third quarterbacks off the board in 2019 showcase their growth in this contest. If both can avoid turnovers, this could turn into a shootout and it will be interesting to see which quarterback comes out on top in this battle.
