The Washington Redskins once again made the FanSided 250, but their fans are still underrated.

Every year, FanSided compiles a list of the 250 hottest fandoms from across sports and pop culture. Since the list came into existence, the Washington Redskins fans have been a staple of it. And once again, the team made it this year.

For 2019, the Redskins are ranked as the 194th overall fanbase by the FanSided 250. That said, the team’s fans are still underrated on the NFL scale, coming in at 22nd among NFL teams.

Frankly speaking, it’s hard to imagine finding 21 NFL fan bases that have better fans than the Redskins. And thus, the team’s fans are underrated.

Year after year, the Redskins fans have been faithful and loyal to an organization that has repeatedly failed them. The team hasn’t been relevant much under Daniel Snyder, but that hasn’t stopped the Redskins faithful from supporting the team. Sure, this year the support for the squad hasn’t been as strong, but there’s a reason for that.

‘Skins fans care enough about the team to know that change from the top down is necessary. And so, they have repeatedly launched campaigns to encourage change, including the #FireBruceAllen movement, which has ended up trending on Twitter a couple of times. The outcry from these fans has evidently been heard by Snyder, as he is reportedly at least considering moving on from Allen, something that hasn’t been thought about in recent seasons.

It’s rare to see a fanbase have that type of impact on an organization. Yet the Redskins fans have done it. With the team struggling yet again, they have been the impetus for change. And if they keep pushing, it’s possible they could get their way.

Coupling this new era of Washington Redskins fandom with the years of success in the past from the Hogettes to the “Hail to the Redskins” fight song makes it clear that the team has a phenomenal fan base. They want the team to do well, but when they’re not playing well, they have the guts needed to step up and demand change. And that is the mark of a true, passionate fan.

The ranking of the Redskins fans on the FanSided 250 is surely an honor, but nonetheless, they are underrated. If the fans can help encourage the team to make the needed changes to usher in a new era of team success moving forward, they’ll surely move up in these rankings.
