2. Redskins can’t settle for field goals this week

For much of the game (and most of the season), the Redskins’ offense had trouble moving the ball. They were able to get a few drives going against an underrated Lions’ defense though. The problem was they weren’t able to finish any of their offensive opportunities, settling for field goals instead.

They must turn those field goals into touchdowns against the Panthers.

Carolina is averaging almost 24 points per game, good for 11th in the league at the moment. They don’t have trouble scoring. The Redskins, on the other hand, are averaging just over 13 per game, the worst in the league.

Washington hasn’t scored more than 20 points since Week 2. Getting touchdowns has been tough for them. If they have scoring opportunities this week, they must turn them into seven points.

Carolina will likely score right around their season average, if not higher, so Washington can’t settle for field goals when they get in the red zone if they hope to keep pace. If the Redskins can finish their drives and score touchdowns instead of field goals, it will help immensely.
