At 6-foot-5, 320, Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs certainly looks the part. He’s a well-sized prospect who possesses great lateral mobility at the line to pair with his measurable traits.

Wirfs additionally possesses power to go along with his size; it’s not just for show. Wirfs has the power at the point of attack to establish a strong anchor in pass protection, and as a run blocker, he shows flashes of having the required mauler mentality as an offensive lineman.

After a review of all quantifiable traits, Wirfs is an offensive lineman the Redskins should consider early in Round 1. But he shouldn’t be their first choice. Despite his athletic parameters, Wirfs does have some questions. His mauler mentality isn’t always present, and he has some technical flaws in his game that need to be remedied.

Additionally, Wirfs’ primary position at Iowa has been right tackle, and that might be where he best translates to the NFL level. Wirfs does rotate to left tackle at times, but transitioning to a permanent role at that spot with the Redskins would, at the very least, take some fine tuning. Still, Wirfs has the athletic traits to make the transition, if he were to be the pick.
