8. player. 817. . Safety. Tigers . Grant Delpit

The Redskins problem in the secondary hasn’t been talent. Fabian Moreau was a very solid height-weight-speed prospect coming out, as was starting safety Montae Nicholson. But the Redskins failed to adequately develop these players, and we shouldn’t assume that their coaching inadequacies will be fixed in April.

Thus, Grant Delpit makes the most sense, if the Redskins are going to go with a safety with their first-round pick. Before the 2019 college football season, Delpit was regarded as a top ten pick in some circles, and some even had him going in the top five, where the Redskins will likely fall in place.

Now, however, Delpit has slipped a bit, but that shouldn’t be an alarm bell for teams considering him; the rise of other prospects has contributed to Delpit’s slip, and while Delpit himself has shown some vulnerability as a tackler, he still possesses a great combination of traits.

Delpit’s range is still a great asset to him, and he’s an incredibly versatile player in the secondary. At 6-foot-3, 201, Delpit can be a chess piece for a defense, and he can take on added roles. Delpit couples excellent athletic traits with intelligence and fast processing, and he’d potentially help the Redskins with the communication issues they’ve been experiencing each week.
