Redskins Saturday Spotlight: Top ten prospect big board in Round 1
By Ian Cummings
Here’s an interesting stat for you: There are 114 qualified cornerbacks graded on Pro Football Focus this season. Josh Norman is the No. 106-ranked cornerback. Fabian Moreau is the No. 111-ranked cornerback. The Redskins need to retool their cornerback room in 2020, and they should spare little expense.
That said, a complete revamp isn’t needed, thanks in part to Quinton Dunbar. While Norman and Moreau are near the bottom of the pack, Dunbar is the No. 1-ranked cornerback on Pro Football Focus. Dunbar has been exceptional this year, but he needs help on the other side. That’s where the Redskins could benefit from an outrageously deep 2020 cornerback class.
There are over half a dozen cornerbacks in the 2020 class who you could make a case for as potential first-round prospects, but fewer cornerbacks who could feasibly work their way into the top ten. Even with LSU’s Kristian Fulton, the Redskins might be better served trading back. But in the top half of Round 1, Fulton is a very good match.
Fulton has a magnificent combination of length and athleticism at his disposal. He’s one of the most fluid cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft, with the ability to mirror receivers in man coverage and break on the ball at the snap of a finger. Fulton can be better at the catch point, but he has all the foundational athletic traits teams look for in boundary cornerbacks.
