Find a way to contain Marvin Jones, especially in the red zone

In all likelihood, the Redskins are going to have their best cornerback, Quinton Dunbar, match up with Kenny Golladay on Sunday afternoon. Golladay is the Lions’ best receiver as the 6-foot-4 pass catcher is a threat to make contested catches and rip off big plays. And in the red zone, he is a massive target that the team can cover.

That said, Dunbar should have a chance to slow down and limit Golladay in this contest. Golladay struggled to get open against Byron Jones last week. Jones is one of the league’s best corners, but Dunbar has been elite this year too. So, the Redskins could win that battle.

The tougher task may be stopping Marvin Jones. The Lions’ No. 2 receiver has been excellent so far this season and has caught seven touchdowns in the past five weeks. He has speed and solid size and could give the Redskins No. 2 corner fits.

Josh Norman hasn’t played well at all this season, but he is likely going to be tasked with defending against Jones for much of the game. The ‘Skins will need to scheme around this and make sure Norman has plenty of safety help to ensure that Jones doesn’t break away from him for big plays.

Additionally, the Redskins will need to watch Jones carefully in the red zone, as he has good hands and quickness and only needs a bit of space to make a play. Making sure they’re aware of where he is at all times will be key to succeeding.

This doesn’t seem like a matchup the Redskins have an advantage in, but they should still give it their all as they look to slow down Jones.
