1. The highest passer rating of the evening belongs to… Tress Way

This is a very weird prediction, but hear me out. The Redskins are going to have to do something strange at some point if they want to stay in this game. Barring an unexpectedly terrific showing from the offense, they will need to create some of their own luck and avoid giving the Vikings too many possessions.

Enter Tress Way. The Redskins punter is one of the best in the league, but he can also throw the ball pretty well. The ‘Skins could look to put his arm to use against the Vikings’ special teams unit. They could try to fake a punt to stay competitive in a short week. If they catch the Vikings off guard, the decision could pay off in spades and help the team stay closer in the prime-time clash.

If Way throws one pass that goes for a huge game, he could have a chance to outpace the other passers in this game at least in terms of passer rating. Kirk Cousins has posted a rating over 130 in each of the past three weeks, but he could be due for a decline in a nationally-televised game. As for Keenum, he has a rating of 94.5 this season, but if he’s forced to throw a lot against a tough defense, it may be tough to match that. Instead, he may be closer to the 78.8 mark he put up against the Bears.

Of course, the passer rating numbers are the secondary part of this prediction, In reality, the prediction here is that the Redskins are going to try, and succeed, on a fake punt in this contest. The end result could be Way leading the team in passer rating, but the bigger point is that I’m expecting the Redskins to play aggressively and try some things to manufacture points and possessions during the game.

We’ll see if this ends up happening, but it would be kind of funny to see Way lead both teams in passer rating in a matchup that was marketed as being all about Cousins and Keenum.
