Redskins vs. Vikings: Keys to victory in Week 8 of the 2019 season
By Kyle Hundley
3. Redskins must shut down Stefon Diggs
After a sluggish start to the season, there has not been a hotter receiver for the last couple of weeks than Stefon Diggs. After hauling in seven receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles, he followed that up with a seven reception 142-yard performance against Detroit, leading the league both weeks in yards.
Making it even more likely Diggs sees a majority of the targets in this contest is the injury of fellow standout Adam Thielen. With a player of Thielen’s caliber out, Cousins will undoubtedly be looking to get Diggs the ball to fill some of that missing production.
Quinton Dunbar has been playing outstanding football in the last couple of weeks, as well. While he didn’t have an interception against the 49ers, he played excellent defense in last Sunday’s rainy weather. On the season, Dunbar has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league.
The Redskins are going to need Dunbar to shut down Diggs and should let him follow Diggs in an effort to do so. If Diggs has a game similar to the ones he has had the last two weeks, Washington will have a tough time slowing down the Vikings.
