Redskins vs. Vikings: Keys to victory in Week 8 of the 2019 season
By Kyle Hundley
1. Redskins must have a productive game from Case Keenum
On Sunday against the 49ers, Case Keenum did not have a good day (nobody on the offense has a good day when you don’t score) as he finished just 9 of 12 for 77 yards. While the weather did play a huge factor, no quarterback should ever throw for under 100 yards in the modern NFL. Keenum took three sacks and finished with a QBR of 25.9.
In his return to Minnesota, the Redskins are going to need more from him this week. Unfortunately for Keenum, he does not have a lot of options to go to on offense. His two best tight ends are out. His best third-down back is out. Mike Zimmer is an excellent defensive coach who will try to take away Terry McLaurin. It could be a tough night for Keenum.
Through two games, Bill Callahan has proven that is he is going to lean heavily on Adrian Peterson, but Keenum is going to have to make some plays. Somewhere around 200 yards and a couple of touchdowns would be enough to give the offense balance. In 2017, he was able to make the necessary plays for his offense to function at a high level. If he struggles again, the Redskins offense is likely going to as well.
