Redskins studs and duds in Week 7 loss to San Francisco

Bonus Stud – Belly slides
Let’s end on a high note. The era of domes and defenses against the weather has rendered extreme condition such as the ones witnessed on Sunday inert in most cases. It also helps that much of the season is played in fall and winter, thus limiting the opportunities for this weather to occur midseason.
But on Sunday, the Redskins alumni day at FedEx Field, Mother Nature presented a time machine, and sent the NFL back 40 years, back to the sweat, dirt, and grime of the dead ball era. What resulted from the perpetual downpour was a diluted modern NFL spectacle, and also the introduction of the best post-play celebrations ever.
It might not have been an enjoyable fan experience, but players on both sides clearly enjoyed themselves sliding around in the rain. After nearly every tackle, players were traveling a couple extra yards over water. Trey Quinn, at one point, logged a sliding catch and received all the style points. And after the last play, a sack of Case Keenum, a group of 49ers players unleashed a bevy of belly slides on the sideline, punctuating a truly unique game with an exclamation point.
All outcomes aside, it was truly refreshing to see the players enjoying themselves in the elements, a theme fittingly reminiscent of older times on alumni day. I’d hate to be the one doing the laundry after this one, but they’ll have an easier time in Minnesota next week.
