Stud: Adrian Peterson

Coming into Week 6, interim head coach Bill Callahan had one goal. He wanted to run the ball more.

Throughout the first five games of the season, the team hadn’t been able to generate any sort of push in the ground game. Callahan bemoaned a lack of attempts for guys like Adrian Peterson as being part of the problem. There was some doubt about whether attempts would actually translate to production.

That said, the idea of getting the run game going against Miami was appealing. The Dolphins were dead-last against the run coming into the game, so if things went well, the team would definitely have a chance to produce.

The goal coming into this game was to establish the run and get Peterson into a rhythm. The team did just that. Peterson saw 23 carries and totaled 118 yards on the ground. He was solid overall. Not elite, but solid. And he allowed the team to possess the ball more and use the play action more beneficially. So, that was a positive for the Redskins.

Peterson deserves recognition for playing well after a tough start to the season. And if he can continue to run well after this week, we’ll be able to point to this game as the moment he got in rhythm and picked up some extra confidence.
