Stud: S Landon Collins

The Redskins invested a lot of money in Landon Collins this offseason and through five games, he had performed well. But the game against the Dolphins was the first time he really showed off how big of a do-it-all playmaker he could be.

Collins did a little bit of everything on Sunday. He led the team in tackles with 12. He played well in pass coverage, breaking up a pass that would’ve been a touchdown had he not swatted it away from the Miami tight end trying to catch the ball. He also was able to blitz successfully and picked up his first sack of the season.

In short, Collins was terrific. Sure, he had a couple of blemishes, including a missed tackle at one point, but the fact of the matter was that he was productive and he was the strong point in the back-seven. That’s what the team brought him here to do, and he has delivered.

If Collins can continue to make impact plays on the ball as he did on Sunday, that will be a boon for the Redskins. At the very least, Collins has proven that his tackling ability makes him a massive weapon in the secondary. And he clearly does have the ability to succeed in pass coverage.

Hopefully, this game will spark Collins and keep him red-hot moving forward. At the very least, he seems likely to continue on as the leading tackler for the defense as the season goes along.
