5. The Reality Is, we should all feel bad for these players… and that’s who we should be rooting for.

Terry McLaurin did nothing to deserve this kind of failure. Daron Payne and Jon Allen have been nothing but hard-nosed, blue-collar workers since they’ve arrived in D.C. Ryan Kerrigan and Chris Thompson and Brandon Scherff and Quinton Dunbar and Matt Ioannidis don’t deserve to have their careers wasted in an organization so lacking in self-awareness and humility that it forces someone to report at 5:00 A.M. to be fired.

They don’t deserve the blame for the debacle this season has become. I, for one, feel bad for these guys. It’s got to be disillusioning to work so hard and put in so much effort with next to zero hope of success or even honorable defeat.

It’s those guys and the majority of their teammates that will have me rooting for this team the remainder of the season. While every bone in my body wants to root for the bottom to fall out in hopes that somehow reality finally smacks Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder upside the head, I will not be able to actively root for the team to lose any given gameday, because I think those players deserve the dignity of fans supporting them in the unenviable task of spending their careers (or at least a large portion of them) in the perpetual doldrums of the Snyder-era Washington Redskins.

Maybe something will break the cycle. Maybe we’ll lose the Tank Battle and end up winning the Tank War.
