3. When will Dwayne Haskins start?

This question has already partially been answered. And it wasn’t the answer that many Redskins fans were hoping for.

While some expected Dwayne Haskins to get a chance to start in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins, interim head coach Bill Callahan confirmed that Haskins isn’t even in the mix to potentially start. So, the first-round rookie seems likely to sit again.

That said, the Redskins didn’t rule out the possibility that Haskins could start at some point this season. They are just sticking to their plan of sitting him until he’s ready. But at some point, they will certainly want to see him in live action in what is looking like a lost season.

If Haskins doesn’t start against the Dolphins, it’s possible that Haskins may not start until after the team’s Week 9 bye. The 49ers, Vikings, and Bills all have strong defenses and if the team doesn’t want to throw Haskins into the fire in a bad situation, they could opt to wait until Week 10 against the Jets. The Jets don’t have a great secondary, so that would at least be a slightly more favorable matchup for Haskins than the other three.

At this point, it’s anybody’s guess as to when Haskins sees starter action. But the Redskins seem committed to waiting until they believe he’s ready. That could ultimately be a good thing for his development, but we’ll surely see.

This storyline will be a major topic throughout the rest of the season as it has been during the first five weeks.
