3. This game doesn’t give us much clarity on the future of the Redskins coaches

It’s anybody’s guess what will happen to the coaching staff.

Jay Gruden should be fired. He should’ve been fired in the offseason. If not then, then after the Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears. Or following the Week 4 loss to the New York Giants. But they kept him around this week and once again, his future is murky.

The Redskins played well in the first half against the Patriots. They trailed just 12-7 at halftime before the game spiraled out of control. Could that half be enough to keep Gruden around? Who knows at this point. It was great defensively, but offensively, it was poor. So, it shouldn’t have much of an impact on anything.

Against a good team, this type of loss usually wouldn’t be enough to get a coaching staff fired. But where Gruden could have and should have been fired in the past, it could be time to move on. Dan Snyder will have to make a decision soon, but the fact that this game wasn’t a worse blowout could buy Gruden another week to see what he can do against the Miami Dolphins.

Gruden is definitely a lame-duck coach and he apparently doesn’t want to be here anymore. But will this game force Snyder to make that decision? It’s unclear. We’ll have an answer shortly, but Redskins fans may have to wait yet another week to see some change.

And that’s not something that will sit well with the Redskins faithful.
