Specialists (3)

Dustin Hopkins, Tress Way, Nick Sundberg

The Redskins should see little need to swap out their specialists at this point in time, especially since their kicker and punter are both coming off, arguably, their best seasons.

Hopkins made a career-high 89.7 percent of his field goals last year, going 26-for-29 on the year. However, his most impressive feat was going 4-for-5 from 50-plus yards. Before last season, Hopkins had only been 5-for-13 from that distance, which prompted many to hope the team brought in some competition for him. But, he seems to have fixed that issue.

Meanwhile, Way was arguably the best punter in the NFL. He averaged 45.3 yards per punt and had a whopping 41 punts downed inside the 20 without a single touchback. That’s mind-blowing. There certainly isn’t a need to replace the 29-year-old from Oklahoma any time soon.

The only question comes at long snapper. Nick Sundberg couldn’t finish last season due to an injury, so Andrew East took over for him. East was solid and is younger than Sundberg, so there could be a changing of the guard there.

However, I don’t foresee that happening. Sundberg has been a valuable teammate and was recently the Redskins’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. For that reason, I think the team will choose to stick with Sundberg.
