2. QB Dwayne Haskins

Some may consider Haskins to be the obvious choice for the No. 1 slot here. After all, he’s a new quarterback, he’s a rookie, and he just smashed several Ohio State passing records including throwing 50 touchdowns in 2018.

So, why isn’t he in the No. 1 spot? The answer is simple. He may not be the starter off the bat.

Haskins is facing stiff competition for the starting quarterback job, as Case Keenum and Colt McCoy are both seasoned veterans that could push him for time. While Haskins has been solid in OTAs, training camp and the preseason will do a lot to determine whether or not he will get on the field to start 2019.

Still, Haskins figures to play at some point during the season, barring a surprising run to contention under either Keenum or McCoy. It’s doubtful that given the current state of the roster the offense will be able to do enough under either quarterback to keep Haskins off the field. Even if he doesn’t start for the first 4-8 games of the year, he will play at some point.

If Haskins does see the field, he will have a chance to use his strong arm to make some pretty downfield plays. He is still working on his overall accuracy and ball placement, but as was evident at Ohio State, he can certainly make plays.

Haskins will have a chance to give the ‘Skins some real excitement at quarterback, something that they’ve lacked since the either Robert Griffin III days. Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith were both solid starters, but neither possessed the type of electric downfield potential that Haskins has. Of course, he will first have to live up to his first-round billing to convert that, but he certainly will have a chance to spark the team and produce some fireworks when he’s on the field in 2019.
